Charming Portrait Miniature of a Child circa 1800: A delightful portrait miniature of a young child - probably a little boy - with piercing blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. He is shown standing in a rose garden proudly holding a basket of fruit, pears.

Watercolour on the ivory. The portrait is set in a mount with a narrow decorative edge. by the artist Bernhard von Schroetter (1772-1842)-Attrib.

Bernhard Edler von Schroetter (Schrötter) was born in Vienna in 1772 and died in the same city in 1842. He was a son of a lawyer. He studied painting from 1791 to 1794 at the Vienna Academy. Later on he began collaborating with lithographer Lorenz (Laurenz) Herr. While Bernhard von Schroetter also painted portraits (among others, those of well-known Viennese actors and actresses), genre and religious paintings, he remained mainly a lithographer. He was also a popular portrait miniaturist and, as such, was strongly influenced by works of Johann Baptiste Isabey.
He took part in the exhibitions of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1813 to 1840.
