Cat. No. 42

1800s - Georgian Portrait Miniature of a Gentleman in a Gold Frame: A Georgian Portrait Miniature of a Brown-Eyed Gentleman. By an accomplished but as yet unidentified hand. Probably an English Artist and Datable to Circa. 1810. He is painted on ivory. He comes in his original gold frame with convex glass. The reverse of which holds a lock of hair formed as a weeping willow tree with cut corn in gold wire and an anchor made from seed pearls set on a piece of foil backed blue glass; the symbolism denotes that this is a piece of mourning jewellery of a probably a Mariner.

Due to delicate construction, I have not examined portrait outside of frame.

Possibly doing so might reveal some details of the sitter or the artist.
