1830's AMERICAN (?) PORTRAIT MINIATURE PIN WITH HAIR on the back: A beautiful hand painted portrait with great detail. I'm guessing from his costume that its from the 1830's. On the back are beautiful "Prince of Wales" style hair feather with gold wire work and seed pearls.

The Sample Family origin: Scottish. First found in Renfrewshire where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Scotland to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects. theu migrate to the USA, some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants: John Semple settled in Charlston S.C. in 1772, Alexander, Francis, Hugh, James, John, Joseph, Lewis, Mathew, Robert, Samuel and William Sempel all arrived in Philadelphia between 1840 and 1870. The family Crest of the Sampler’s appears with Knits Shild with the moto “ Keep tryst”.
