Artist: William Essex 1784-1869 -ENAMEL MINIATURE PORTRAIT PIN by W. ESSEX 1861. FOX HUNTING:
Beautifully painted portrait miniature on enamel of a fox's head, set in 15ct rose gold and mounted as a pin. Signed by the very well listed Victorian artist (see Foskett) William Essex (1784-1869) and dated 1861. Appointed enamel painter to Queen Victoria in 1839 and was considered one of the finest enamellists of the period. Weighs 4.8 grams the gold is unmarked but has been tested as 15ct. The miniature is in excellent condition.
