Artist: M. Rouvier 1750-1815 - Signed Miniature of Napoleon officer in uniform: A very well executed Oil portrait of an officer (probably a General) in Napoleans army, The background is the grey blue shown in the detail. He is in the 1796 uniform of a blue coat with spreading collar, gold buttons and embroidery, tied with a black stock. The reverse has a wonderful scene of classical ruins signed Amitie which I think is a painting on glass with a gold leaf or gilt background. sealed in a gilt glazed frame with suspension mount.
A signature of Rouvier is on the right at 4o/c. A rare French artist, M. Rouvier 1750-1815 exhibited miniatures at the Salon de la Correspondence in 1779 and in 1782 painted a protrait of Princess Massalka who married the Prince de Ligne, several of his paintings were shown at the 1906 Paris Exhibition. ref Foster's Dictionary of Painters of miniatrures page 261.
