NEWTON: A fantastic fine quality miniature painted by listed and well respected artist Sir William John Newton painted in watercolour on ivory and dating 1828 this is in its original ebony frame and has its original rose thistle and shamrock hanging finial .A Gentelmam, called R. Corbould, wearing brown coat, yellow waistcoat, tied white stock and frilled cravat. Signed on reverse and dated 1828/painted by Sir Willm Newton/Portrait painter/***Majesty and inscribed with the sitter’s name, gilt-mounted rectangular papier-mache frame. Sir William John Newton (1785-1869) - A listed artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution from 1808-1863 . His patrons included members of the Royal Family, Members of Parliament and fellow artist. He was appointed miniature painter to William IV and Queen Adelaide in 1833, and painter to Queen Victoria who knighted him in 1837, the year of her Accession.
