1787 MINIATURE PORTRAIT of a LADY ('Miss Burns') with SEPIA MOURNING PENDANT on BACK: A Lady, wearing white dress with lace-trimmed fichu and blue bow at her breast, her hair curled and powdered. Gold frame, the reverse glazed to reveal mourning miniature of an angel above a funerary urn on a plinth inscribed Not lost/but gone/before, painted on ivory with ivory, gold threads, split pearls and hair. together with a Lady, wearing white dress, a bandeau in her curled and powdered hair, gold frame, the reverse with glazed aperture to reveal plaited hair. mounted in a heavily gold plated frame with a full sized three dimensional sepia mourning picture to the reverse. the picture is dated 1787. This is a rare mourning piece.The minature is high quality as you can see, but shows no signature.
Due to delicate construction, I have not examined portrait outside of frame.
Possibly doing so might reveal some details of the sitter or the artist.

Condition: In very good overall condition. The frame has a small nick at the top and minor plate loss at the base edge. The sepia picture has some missing seed pearls and a piece of gold wire is also missing from the right of the tomb.
